The last couple of courses I took have been amazing. One was Called Building a Strong Foundation, and was all about how to reconginze and teach endurance athletes how to control their bodies and retrain the nueromuscular system to stop tissue breakdown from the ground up. The other course was on Postural Assesment and Corrective Exercises. I have been teaching techniques based on both of these courses with great success. I believe that if you can teach someone to recognize how their body is breaking down during movement then you can fix it. Body Awareness is totally under-rated in sport. You have to know how your body moves through what-ever medium you are in, whether swimming , biking or running and be able to adapt and fix any problems that you are having. The only problem for endurance athletes is that they have to slow down, almost stop and feel what is happening in their body which may take away from their long run or ride or swim!&lt;br /&gt;It doesn't take much time to practice some of the exercises and they are as simple as standing on one foot and making sure that use stay logn in your spine, hips level and your arch supporting your foot. can you close your eyes and do this? Can you go up on your toes? Can you stand holding onto a resistance tube and lift one leg without our body shifting? All of these are very simple tasks that many of us have problems executing. When I first started closing my eyes to balance on one foot I feel over after 2 seconds. I am now up to 20sec!! Start to pay attention to your body- how it moves, how you stand, how you sit. Last year Whistler saw the excitement and passion of the Olympics and Paralympics and the amazing athletes from all over the world.  It was a truly inspirational time for anyone watching.  After that excitment another exciting event came to Whistler the Gran Fondo- a bike race from Vancouver along the newly completed Sea to Sky highway to Whistler.  This event drew a crowd of close to 4,000 participants.  It was an amazing event with people lining the streets, overpasses and highway all the way to Whistler cheering for all the cyclists.  Now in 2011 we have the Tenderfoot Boogie, trail race from Squamish to Whistler, the annual Whistler Kids of Steel Triathlon and Adult Try-A-Tri, the Whistler Valley Trail Run 5 and 10km, the first Whistler Half Marathon, to be held on June 4, after that the World OutGames are coming to Whislter and will have a Mountain Marathon, Adventure Race and Mountain Bike race, then there is Xterra in Aug. , the Whistler Gran Fondo in Sept. and the Haney to Harrison Relay race and ultra marathon in Nov.. There is the possiblity of Comfortably Numb race happening again this year which is a 25km trail run.  And that is not all- there are more races and events happening that have not yet been confirmed.  So what are you waiting for. I realized after finishing the race that I needed a break from training and racing so  I took some time off training to focus on my coaching.  I coached 12 athletes for a variety of differnt triathlon and running races throughout the summer.  I took the time to train with my athletes, drive to thier races and cheer them on.  Wow is that a powerful experience!!&lt;br /&gt;I started a run group through the Salomon Store for begginer and intermediate runners,  which was another amazing expereince.    Getting people out of their comfort zones to try something new, not be discouraged but eager to come back and try again is a challenge.  Thanks to Wendy Wheeler who helped me out by running with the more expereinced runners I was able to stay with the beginners and help them out. &lt;br /&gt;For the past two months I have been enjoying the beautiful fall weather and getting outside to run the trails-  that is the best time to run them!  The air is crisp, the trails can sometimes be muddy ,which is fun, and the colors are amazing.&lt;br /&gt;I have also been training my brain and body by taking a variety of courses from Psychology- Choice Theory,  Blood lactate testing- completed my FaCT Level 2, to core and balance retraining for endurance athletes.  Just like an athlete who wants to become stronger and more competitive, I am taking courses so I can do this through coaching!! We arrived on Dec 4th and I raced the Xterra World Trail Run Championships Dec 6th!! With little to no heat acclimatization my sister and myself set up at the start line not knowing what we were in for. A few top names were at the race and me, haha!!&lt;br /&gt;The race was held at the Kualoa Ranch on the north west shores of Oahu. It was a beautiful sunny day and the race started a little late due to the long line ups at the porta potties- surprise.&lt;br /&gt;Have you ever been to a race where there were enough of them???&lt;br /&gt;As for the run the trail was not technical but the climbing and heat took its toll on most of us, especially us pasty white folk from somewhere cold BC!! Luckily I took my own fluids and was able to drink when I needed to which was more often than the aid stations. I found myself walking after the first half hour and thought when is this going to be over!! Not a good thought when you have probably only completed 5 of the 21km. After an hour of running in the heat I started to feel somewhat warmed up and ready to run. The veiws were spectacular and while walking up a few hills I took the time to enjoy it. The downhill portion was slippery mud and long grass. I was cautious as I descended knowing I needed my ankles for next weekend. You can join Munny and I Tues. evenings at 6pm for Tues night trail run clinic.  Meet at Escape Route, $5.  Last Tues. of every month is a Hash Run.&lt;br /&gt;I participated in my first hash run last month and it was great fun.  You basically all run working as a team to find the route that leads to the end or beer.  The faster runners take off and let you know if they are on the right or wrong trail by yelling out. I was so proud to see everyone out there having a good, bad and super day.  As a coach it was really important to me to be out there to see my athletes and freinds in action and support them.  It is a different kind of feeling when you have worked with someone to achieve thier goals and then you see them do it!!  I have to admit I cried a few times that day!!&lt;br /&gt;Another of my athletes competed in his first 1/2 iron in Kona.  I also wish I could have been there for him to help him through a tough, hot day!!!  But he persevered through the heat and stomach issues to finish!!!&lt;br /&gt;I also had two athletes who were not able to compete which was very unfortunate.&lt;br /&gt;As for me it is now my turn to put all my hard work, commitment, physical and mental strength on the line at Ironman Coeur D'Alene June 21. &lt;br /&gt;I will go into this race with not only my own determination but the inspiration from all my athletes, family, friends and fellow triathletes. I have had the opportunity to coach over 18 athletes this year!!&lt;br /&gt;It has been the most amazing opportunity for me and I have truly found my passion!&lt;br /&gt;The highlight so far this year was watching 3 of my athletes complete the Whistler Try-a-Tri. What an amazing feeling it is to have helped someone overcome their fears, challenge themselves and achieve their goal! I have never been so proud as a coach and for my athletes!&lt;br /&gt;I am also coaching two Ironman athletes this year which is a challenge trying to fit training into their busy lives and make sure they are doing it and staying injury free!! As for the challenges, I have also had much success this year with my races. I completed my first 50km trail run in March, Diez Vista with my sister Janet. It was great and I was very proud of myself.   Stairs were challenging for the next few days but I did it.&lt;br /&gt;Then it was the UBC sprint Tri , 1st place in my age group, North Shore Sprint, 2nd in my age group and the Vancouver World Championships. This was the toughest swim I have ever completed due to the cool temperature 11.9 degrees and the cool air temperature 7 degrees and the enourmous swells. But I completed the race and placed 28th in my age group in the WORLD!!!&lt;br /&gt;After World's I had to start increasing my distance for my longer races. This past weekend I completed the Osoyoos Half Ironman. I came 3rd in my age group which was a surprise to me!!&lt;br /&gt;The race was tough as usual but I stayed positive and was happy with my efforts.&lt;br /&gt;Now it is all about preparing for Ironman Canada in August. Let me help you out by suggesting some options available to you:&lt;br /&gt;Whistler Nordics 15 and 30km Loppet Feb,08&lt;br /&gt;UBC mini, sprint and Olympic triathlon distance - great way to keep you moving in January!&lt;br /&gt;Whistler Adult Try-a Tri - beginner triathlon for every adult, short distances lots of fun! May 24&lt;br /&gt;5 and 10 km Valley Trail Run - May 25&lt;br /&gt;Other options include starting a new strength training program, joining a yoga class, learning about nutrition, or how to meditate.&lt;br /&gt;I will be offering small group 3-4 people personal training sessions at Meadow Park, either early morning or mid-day depending on your groups time frame. The first month will be focusing on our core strength and hip stabilization. This fall I was also able to participate in the Can-Fit Pro Conference in Richmond BC.
